Mile 86: Burnside, Connecticut (School St.)
At present (2023,) this is one of the most important dividing
points on the HP&F/NY&NE/Highland Division. Although
Connecticut Southern Railroad holds trackage rights both east and west
of here (School Street in East Hartford,) there hasn't been a train
east of here since 2017 and the tracks are formally out of service
(OOS) with all crossings including this one marked exempt. According to
Tyler City Station, the depot was on the southeast corner of the crossing here.

The School Street Crossing is
marked EXEMPT in 2023. It is not known exactly when this happened, but
the line was out of service for several years before the crossings east
of Burnside recieved these markings. (10/2023.)

At School Street in East Hartford, looking east towards Manchester. According to Tyler City Station, the depot would be on the right side of the tracks in this view (10/2023.)

Looking west towards the East
Hartford Yard from School Street (Burnside Depot) in August, 2016. At
this time the line was still in service east of this point.

A similar vantage point 7 years
later, 6 years after the line was taken out of service. Note that the
HP&F tracks are active again not much further west of here- these
are attached to the yard in East Hartford. The East Windsor Secondary,
which diverges from the HP&F at this yard, is very much active.
Apparently the HP&F tracks east of the yard are used for storage.
